Summary by Ms Phua

Design Situation

ê  Problem situation:

- Write the problem clearly. State the consequences. Do not write the solution.

- Eg. Shoes are seen lying everywhere at the door messily. This is unsightly and causes

obstruction to people entering or leaving the house.

ê  Design Brief:

- Solution to the problem.

- Must start with “Design and make”.

- Must include 4 things: Product name, Function, one specific group of User and Location.

- Eg. Design and make a shoe rack that can store at least 12 pairs of shoes neatly for

family members to be placed near the door entrance of the house.

ê  Design Consideration:

            - Questions that a designer asks that is related to the design of the product

            - Eg. What material should the shoe rack be made of?

ê  Design Specification:

- Requirement of a product.

- Must give a reason for every requirement.

- Format of writing à “The product should … because/so that …”

- Eg. The product should not have any sharp edges so that it would be safe to use and would not hurt the user.
